• Discontinue use of tanning beds, direct, extensive UV exposure and self-tanners at least two weeks prior to a chemical peel. It’s advised that you stop using tanning beds altogether because they increase your risk of skin cancer and accelerate visible signs of aging.
  • No facial waxing or threading 7 days prior to treatment.
  • If you are using Tretinoin or Retinol products, stop the use for 7-10 days prior to your chemical peel. High percentage alpha hydroxy (AHA) and beta hydroxy (BHA) products should be stopped five days before treatment.
  • Always apply a broad spectrum physical SPF daily (at least SPF 30 or higher)
  • Avoid the gym 24 hours prior to a chemical peel.
  • Do not use aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (ex. Advil) for at least 7-10 days prior to a chemical peel.

AFTER YOUR CHEMICAL PEEL: It is crucial to the health of your skin and the success of your peel that these guidelines be followed:

  • If retinoic acid is used as part of your treatment, your skin will have a light-yellow tinge immediately after the procedure. This is temporary and will fade in 1 to 2 hours. IT is recommended that you wait 4 hours after your peel before washing your face, however if you should choose to wash it sooner, please wait until after the yellow tinge completely disappears (1 to 2 hours).
  • It is imperative that you use a mineral sunscreen (Zinc Oxide) with an SPF of at least 30 and avoid direct sunlight for at least 1 week following the peel.
  • Patients with hypersensitivity to the sun should take extra precautions to guard against exposure immediately following the procedure as they may be more sensitive. Wear a hat.
  • Your skin may be more red than usual for 2 to 3 days. Please avoid strenuous exercise during this time.
  • Approximately 48 hours after the treatment your skin will start to peel. This peeling will generally last 2 to 5 days.
  • DO NOT PICK OR PULL THE PEELING SKIN.
  • When washing your face, do not scrub. Use a gentle cleanser.
  • Apply a light moisturizer or Alastin Nectar, twice daily to relieve dryness and tightness.
  • Do not have any other facial treatment for at least 1 week after your peel.
  • You may resume the regular Retin-A, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) products or bleaching creams ONLY after the peeling process is complete.
