A Passion for Mohs Surgery and Cosmetic Dermatology
Dr. Levine‘s interest in dermatology was sparked during medical school, where he completed a rotation at a skin cancer clinic. The ability to help skin cancer patients both medically and aesthetically during Mohs surgery and reconstruction made a lasting impression and sparked a passion for both Mohs and cosmetic dermatology.
“Academically, I was fascinated with Mohs surgery because of the union of microscopic examination of cancer tissue, along with surgical skin cancer clearance and reconstruction,” says Dr. Levine. “I was amazed at how relieving it was for patients to know that their cancer was completely removed right away and how convenient it was for their surgical repair to be completed on the same day.”
While the main goal of Mohs surgery is to completely remove the skin cancer, Dr. Levine notes that “minimizing scarring and maintaining normal structure, function, and symmetry with the subsequent skin cancer repair is always an objective of a good Mohs surgeon.” Dr. Levine has performed thousands of causes of Mohs surgery and thus has the skill and refined technique needed to provide the best possible cosmetic outcome, hiding scars whenever possible, restoring facial volume where a cancer has been removed, and maintaining facial symmetry.
Regarding skin cancer prevention, Dr. Levine stresses the importance of getting regular skin checks. “Routine skin checks with cancer screenings once to twice annually are so important for everyone, especially when living in Florida,” he says. “Cancers are detected much earlier; and when they are found, they are much smaller and much easier to remove. It can be a life-saving measure that is so simple to do.”
A Unique Approach to Facial Rejuvenation
When it comes to facial rejuvenation, Dr. Levine emphasizes the importance of tailoring each procedure to the individual. He uniquely performs procedures like eyelid lifts, brow lifts, and mini facelifts in-office under local anesthesia to not only minimize the risks associated with general anesthesia, but to also allow for a quicker recovery and more cost-effective procedure for patients.
Dr. Levine’s expertise lies in having an artistic eye and creating natural, proportional results that blend seamlessly with a patient’s natural features without looking “overdone” or “windblown.”

Surgical vs. Nonsurgical: Which Is Right for You?
Dr. Levine is dedicated to helping his patients choose the best surgical or nonsurgical procedures for their specific needs and goals. “The advancements in nonsurgical treatments have been tremendous,” he explains, “so the decisions of whether to pursue surgery or a nonsurgical procedure are much more elaborate than in the past.”
Dr. Levine further stresses that patient education is critical when choosing the best cosmetic procedure, as are realistic expectations. Non-surgical treatments like Botox, fillers, and laser resurfacing are excellent for correcting uneven skin tone, fine wrinkles, and mild skin laxity. However, for more significant issues such as pronounced skin drooping, surgical procedures like facelifts and brow lifts are often more effective at achieving the desired results.
In many cases, a combined surgical and nonsurgical approach can yield the most complete results. “Surgical procedures can be viewed as laying the background foundation of an artistic tapestry,” he explains. “The framework and establishment of a strong backdrop is accomplished with surgery. Then, the finer details that cannot be addressed by surgery are layered upon this foundation. Skin tones are evened, persistent wrinkles and scars are resurfaced, and volume loss around the mouth and cheek bones, for example, are filled. And lastly, an individually-tailored quality maintenance program and medical-grade skin care products go a long way to longevity.”
The Role of Advanced Technology in Aesthetic Treatments
Dr. Levine is particularly excited about the latest advancements in non-surgical treatments. Fillers, for example, have evolved from simply correcting wrinkles to enhancing and volumizing key facial features like the cheekbones, jawline, and temples. With newer, finer fillers, even delicate areas like the lips can be artfully finessed for a natural, youthful look.
Additionally, the rise of cosmetic lasers has revolutionized facial rejuvenation. “Facial rejuvenation laser procedures now have much shorter recovery times and the risk of complications are reduced a lot,” says Dr. Levine. “Evening the complexion by removing brown spots, redness, broken capillaries, and fine lines can be achieved with even one treatment. Reversing sun damage and precancerous growths has also been proven in studies for some lasers. For mild skin laxity, lasers can tighten the skin with no downtime. Small pockets of fat can be melted away. The options available today are incredible.”
One of the latest laser technologies that Dr. Levine is most excited to offer is the Sciton Halo laser. “In one to two treatments, wrinkles can be smoothed away, along with removing precancerous lesions, brown spots, and redness with minimal downtime. The results are fantastic, leaving patients with a glowing complexion.”
