Your doctor has performed an intralesional Kenalog injection (triamcinolone acetonide injectable suspension, USP) which is indicated for cystic lesions, abscesses, scars, inflammatory lesions of granuloma annulare, lichen planus, lichen simplex chronicus, psoriatic plaques, alopecia areas, discoid lupus erythematosus and/or keloids. Intralesional Kenalog is a diluted corticosteroid which are used to help reduce inflammation and/or itching.

To ensure healing, these instructions should be followed:

1) Massage the injection site(s) with mild pressure, 3 times per day for 3 minutes, for a total of 3 days.

2) Massaging the area will help to work in the medication and decrease the chance of a common side effect which is dimpling at the injection site. If dimpling were to occur, it will resolve on its own.
